On Tuesday May 22, a select group of JLA students were inducted into JLA’s, multiple, Honor societies; these societies range from JLA’s Junior National Honor Society to Mu Alpha Theta, the high school Mathematics Honor Society. After period 8, around roughly 4:05 PM, the students began rehearsing, for the induction, in the Beit Midrash. The students practiced their entrance, receiving the awards and the final exit. After concluding, students promptly changed into the stylish JLA oxford shirt. The event was about to begin.
Parents flooded through the doors in anticipation of the Honor society induction. As the adults quieted down, the students gracefully strode in with their heads held high. Leading the Upper school inductees into the room was Leon Zrihen and leading the Middle school inductees was Yaffa Zippin. Everyone took their seats and the procession began with inspirational remarks from Rabbi Perl. He reminded the audience that as much as academic excellence holds importance in our lives, excellence in character is that much more crucial.
The middle school students inductees for the National Junior Honor Society were up first; Ms. Kubach called them up one by one to receive a certificate and take a picture. Once all inductees were on stage they took an oath to uphold the standards of the JLA NJHS.
As the middle schoolers returned to their seats, Mr. Shapiro came to the podium to give the Upper school inductees their certificates. There are five separate honor societies for upper school: US Honor Society, English NHS, Hebrew HS, Mu Alpha Theta (mathematics), and Science NHS. Selected students took their oaths according to the societies they were inducted into.
Following the ceremony, JLA provided a delicious dinner spread including two enormous sheet cakes celebrating the students’ accomplishments. Inductee Jake Kravetz explained, “It was nice, … It was like my hard work was being recognized.”
Congratulations to all those inducted into these prestigious societies.
