The Middle School Basketball Team’s Season Begins
The middle school basketball season started with three games in one week. Led by head coach, RC Ganser, and assistant coach, Dr. Jackson, the team will have eight games this season. They’ve been practicing for weeks running starting out with basic drills and working they’re way up to complex offensive plays. Here’s a rundown on how the games went.
The Jaguars started out the season against Palmer Trinity. Palmer Trinity jumped out to a big lead early with lots of fast breaks, but in the second half, we started to come back thanks to great efforts from Misha Greenblat and Ari Small—the two of them combined for twelve three-pointers 3, with Misha going 7 for 15 for the game with 22 points. Nolan Cohen also was great, slicing and dicing the defense and dishing out great assists. In the end though it was not enough as Palmer Trinity came out 60-48.
On Wednesday, our boys faced off against the Posnack Rams. Right out of the gates, the Jaguars jumped out to a massive lead. The Jaguars looked to get out in fast break opportunities and played great defense. The starters put in the work and everyone got to enjoy playing time. Incredible plays from Ari Small, Owen Wise, and Yossi Bichachi laid the foundation for what turned out to be a one-sided affair. In the end it all boiled down to a 47-36 victory for the Jaguars.
The very next day the Jaguars squared off again but this time with Cushman. It was no easy task to guard Cushman’s two tall centers, one of whom was over 6 feet tall. The game started out close, but towards the end of the first quarter, Cushman’s centers took over the game. Looking for a spark of energy, Coach Ganser turned to 6th graders Marco Deutsch, and Alec Wasserman. With the second unit on, the Jaguars started to come back with great hussle plays and smart passing. Marco Deutsch ended the game with five steals along with four assists. As the clock ticked away, Cushmans two big men who combined for 35 points were too much to handle. It resulted in a 31-51 loss for the Jaguars.
The middle school boys have 5 more games to go and we’ll be following them all.
