On February 13, our school had an Open Mic Night. The Florida Winter theme was an amazing theme, loved by all. When entering the outdoor library terrace, there was a path of confetti flip flops and tinsel hanging from the ceiling. Inflatable fires on each table and lights hanging around the open mic night backdrop. It looked absolutely brilliant.

60 people attended the Mic Night and 19 people performed. There were a variety of acts from songs, to gameshows, to skits, it had everything. Ariel Salama, 10th grade, said his favorite act was from Arlan Bartfeld in 10th grade. His act was about a political debate, and just how heated conversations can get. Eva Cohen, 6th grade, really enjoyed Emily Chao, Steffi Koslowe, and Cecelia Russels’ skit about a family fighting. Eva also performed and said, “what I liked about performing was how I got to show everyone my piano skills. It was scary at first, but then it got less scary. I’m so glad that everyone got a chance to listen to my piano.” Other worthy performances included sophomore Tal Cohen’s performance of “The Raven,” which he memorized for the event.
On a more historical note, 9th grade students in Ms. Sarmiento’s world history class read their children’s books, themed around the Renaissance fresco paintings and the Protestant Reformation.

The acts and decorations were not the only things loved by everyone. “My favorite food there was the delicious sushi,” Ilana Salama 7th grade said. The whole amazing night was put together by our National English Honor Society. As Aviva said: “I loved the songs, they were a great addition this year. They really helped end the night off beautifully.” We look forward to our next year’s Open Mic Night and we hope to see you all there.
