What’s cooking in our JLA Cafeteria?
Can you believe it’s been two months already since we stepped into this brand new, shiny JLA campus? Time flies when you’re having fun… and studying hard, of course! I’ve started a new project: to find out what everyone thinks about our cafeteria and school food. I’ve been walking around with a notebook and a pencil (and maybe a cookie or two for the road), to gather some juicy details and some not-so-secret wishes for our school menu.
The Awesome! ✨
Imagine: a super spacious, sparkly clean, and ultra-modern cafeteria. Who would not like that? Everyone tells me they love the space and the cleanliness. But the bar is high when you know the rest of the JLA campus. As a six grader told me, “it’s a mini-vacation in the middle of the day!”. And it’s true that for 40 minutes, it’s really where we can be ourselves, laugh, and catch up with our friends.
Some love the fact that we have a healthy salad bar. But considering the lines for the main course, it’s just a few of us. Another middle schooler has shared their best kept secret: the magic of eating outside. People don’t think about it, but it’s so nice to be able to get some fresh air. But let’s keep that between us, okay?
The Not-So-Great 😕
Okay, so it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. With a place so big, many say that the place gets noisy and you can hear an echo. It can get really LOUD! Another common feedback, is that the lines for the food can get really long and that they could maybe be broken up to help with that.
Now let’s talk about the food. Many have a thing or two to say about it. It’s good, but it seems like there is room to be better. As Lilah Sister, a six grader, suggests, “we would like to see sushi back at the Cafeteria and some Asian food”. Some don’t like the meat and eat the rice as their safe option. Others suggest more snacks. It sounds like it’s time to spice things up a little!
The Heart of JLA ❤️
In the end, everyone agrees that our cafeteria is like the heart of our school. With tables of all shapes and sizes, it’s a mini version of JLA – out of the box and full of surprises! Thanks to Coach Martinez, my soccer team has been ‘invited’ to share lunch together every day as a way to bond. And it’s not just us; you can see everyone mixing up. Students even like the fact that teachers and students eat together.
In the JLA cafeteria, it’s not like the strict, old-school banquets of the Harry Potter movies. We are more about fun, new friendships, and creating memories. No need for silence when teachers walk in – we’re one big, loud, happy family!
