Organized by the upper school government, the best high school soccer players played against teachers who volunteered during option 9. Most of the school came out and watched; the energy was high in anticipation for the game. Mr. Shapiro was the sole referee to start the game.
The game got off to a quick start with Coach Martinez scoring a goal right after the opening kick off. Then, to add insult to injury, Mr. Salmeron tapped in the second goal minutes after. The game then went to a lull until halftime when Mr. Shapiro had to leave putting the game in the hands of Elai Avidan and Eitan Savion, which caused a little protest from the students’ bench. The students had a late push with goals from Gabby and Andre Alperowitch. Even so, it wasn’t enough to win, with goals from Coach Martinez and Mr. Nandin. The teachers pulled away and won the game 4-2.
Protest as to the refereeing of the game ensued after seemingly bad no-calls from Elai Avidan on multiple slide tackles from Mr. Nandin, which could have led to a penalty and a red card. Despite this it was a fun event and everyone in the game had a great time.
