Where does one begin? I have only been in this school for about three months, but I have learned a lot.
One of the pros is your teachers. They have come to this school to prepare and educate the future, and they were hired because they are the ones who do it best. But for every pro, there is a con. One of the cons is that the teachers may see your potential too much and will give you lots of homework. If you fall behind on the work, your grades go uncomfortably low, and you have to pick yourself up from the slumps. (I’ve been there).
Another pro is the surroundings that you are in – not only your teachers, but also your peers, classmates, and friends. From athletics to the classroom, your environment was handpicked to be the one that you want and need. Yet a con that contradicts this is the range and variety of classes. We can’t all take exactly what we want to take.
Another pro: the responsibilities. As we all know, we are given strict deadlines for assignments and projects. This can teach us time management, and you will regret the consequences that can occur when you procrastinate. However, to bring up a con, the responsibilities stack up really quickly. That’s what worries me—the thought of missing an assignment and my grade falling. I’m willing to bet I’m not the only one with that kind of stress.
Lastly, what does the school do to help you with the real world? They have SEP to help you understand how other people feel. They also give us our own devices, which we may need for work in our tech-heavy future. On the other hand, though, they are one of the countless schools that don’t teach their students how to pay taxes. It would be an interesting class for the seniors, in particular, to prepare them for the long life ahead of them.
And what can JLA do to change? What do you want in this school? That is why both middle school and high school have a form of a student government to take suggestions and get students’ opinions, but then again, the administration may disagree with what the students think. If the administration disagrees, the situation will go back and forth, like a pro and con.
In conclusion, JLA is an amazing school, and the cons are just room for improvement. My opinions will definitely change. I cannot deny the fact that the emotional characteristics of humans change, and there is no exception for me.
