We can all agree that sleep is crucial for our mental and physical well-being. Especially for adolescents. The National Institutes of Health states, “Pre-teens who slept less than nine hours daily had differences in brain structure and more problems with mood and thinking compared to those who got sufficient sleep.” (2022)
The National Sleep Foundation recommends the following amount of sleep for age:
- 9-11 hours for schoolchildren (6-13 years)
- 8-10 hours for teenagers (14-17 years)
- 7-9 hours for adults (18-64 years)
Children with consistent positive sleeping habits tend to notice improvements in their mental and physical health, behavior, learning, and overall quality of life (England, 2024).
